Ganesha’s jhula, or swing, is an oft-depicted scene in Hindu art and is one of the most popular and beloved of Hindu gods. Ganesha is the god of good luck and fortune, and his jhula symbolizes the fragility of life and the ever-changing nature of fortune. Ganesha’s jhula is a reminder to take joy in life, as it can be taken away just as quickly.  Ganesha’s jhula is often depicted in traditional Hindu art, with Ganesha seated in a swing or cradle, surrounded by his loving family and attendants. His mount, the mouse, is often shown with him, as the mouse symbolizes humility and learning. The jhula is usually hung from a tree, and is often decorated with a garland of flowers – a sign of Ganesha’s joy and abundance.  Ganesha’s jhula is a popular symbol in Hindu culture, and is often used in religious ceremonies and rituals. It is also a popular subject in art, often seen adorning the walls of Hindu temples and homes. In Hindu weddings, Ganesha’s jhula is often hung from the ceiling, signifying the joy and happiness of the newlyweds.  Ganesha’s jhula is a powerful symbol of the fragility of life, and the ever-changing nature of fortune. It reminds us to take joy in life, and to be humble and learn from our experiences. Ganesha’s jhula is a beloved symbol of Hindu culture, and a beautiful reminder to take joy in life’s little swings.
